Haltwhistle Spring Walking Festival 2013
The programme for the 2013 Haltwhistle Spring Walking Festival is now well up and running and open for business.
This very successful walking festival runs from Saturday 27th April to Monday 6th May, 2013.
The organisers continue to push the boundaries of creativity with a range of 27 walks over different terrain, different levels of difficulty and themes to more than meet the abilities and interests of most walkers.
The programme naturally makes the most of the beauty that spring brings into the varied landscapes around Haltwhistle with bats birds, lambs, waterfalls and woodland all featured in the walks.
History from ancient to modern features with walks covering Standing Stones, the Roman Wall, Border Reivers and the 2nd World War. There is also an evening talk by Paddy Dillon about the Border Reivers.
A particular walk that looks very interesting is 'Postmans Knock' covering a challenging route that a local postman regularly had to walk and cycle to deliver the mail to outlying farms in the area.
