Hexham FCBoth the under 10 teams shared the points this week, the Greens with an excellent display at Throckley which is notoriously a difficult place to come away from with any kind of a result. The entire team deserved credit as they never gave up after being a goal down for a long spell in the game but man of the match Alex Wood popped up late on the get the goal that gave them a deserved share of the points.

The Whites on the other hand went goal crazy in their match at home against Corbridge. The visitors kept taking the lead but time after time the Whites kept pegging them back.

Two goals each for Mark Hodgson and Thomas Lewis but their efforts would have been in vain but for keeper Sam Bush making some fine saves. The under 11's and 13's had very close games also but both managed to secure victory by the narrowest of margins .

Wallsend BC 3 -3 Hexham

After last week's Amateur Cup disappointment it was back to league action with a trip to Coach Lane campus to take on Wallsend BC. These games are always enjoyable as both teams like to get the ball on the floor and play to feet. Also when you play Wallsend you never know who is going to pull on a shirt with the fantastic reputation the club enjoys not just locally but from the national stage.

Today was no exception and a thrilling match was encountered. Hexham welcomed Scott Coates back to the side after a long term shoulder injury, with a few late call offs due to injury and work commitments he was most welcome.

The game did not take long to burst into life when a long clearance from Sean Heads split the home defence and found Curtis Harvey in space. In a confident manner he turned his marker, who had given him too much space, and he crashed the ball past Phil Holgate in the home goal.

(23 Sept 10)

The under 10's have started the season well with wins for both of our teams this weekend, the double comprised of the Whites winning at Haltwhistle and the Greens making sure of the points with a home victory over Stocksfield. Thomas Lewis stared for the Whites with a double hat trick and it was no surprise when he was also awarded the MotM award.

The Greens goals were well spread out but Seth Kippax-Jones bagged a pair and MotM Alex Wood made the score sheet. The under 11's have broken new ground for the club by competing for the very first time in the North East Youth Development League and a strong start they have made. Starting off with a solid draw away at Seaton Burn and then three days later taking all the points at Cramlington.

After going behind to an early goal. Patrick Dryden brought Hexham level in the first half before David Scott,Callum Snowden and George Cook netted in the second period

The momentum is building as the preparations are now well underway for the 24th Annual Art & Craft Fair in Haltwhistle. Possibly the oldest craft fair in Tynedale. The event takes place in the Masonic Hall on Banks Terrace on Saturday 6th November, between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. and is already looking to be bigger than ever.

The venue for the event and is not far from the Main Street in Haltwhistle. It is a comfortable, modernised hall with good disabled access.

The fair has already attracted a varied range of different crafts and is already more than 50% full. Regular stall holders Ian Forster and Matty Parker will be returning with their different types and styles of high quality woodwork, Michelle Macdonald with her individual designs of painted glass, and Ann Garside who annually travels a considerable distance to the fair with her wide range of floral decorations and cards.

The clock is ticking and it is now only 3 weeks to the start of the twice yearly Haltwhistle Walking Festival which runs from October 9th to 17th.

Bookings for the walks are coming in steadily with over early 200 bookings already and some walks are nearly full to capacity.

The range of walks is extremely varied and amongst them there are walks that celebrate local characters as well as the wonderful landscapes that are plentiful in the Haltwhistle area

There is the NANCY PARKER MEMORIAL POETRY WALK, Nancy was a regular member of the Haltwhistle walking group who died three years ago. Amongst her many attributes she was a secret poet. During the walk there will be stops to hear some of Nancy's poems. Participants are also invited to write a poem based on the features of the walk. The poems will be selected to be read during the walk and all will be published in a booklet. At the end of the participants all receive the booklet plus a book of Nancy's poems.

Local singer songwriter, Ian K Brown, is re-starting acoustic guitar classes at the Gatehouse in Hexham as part of the Northumberland Adult Education programme at the end of September.

There two classes available.

A beginners class for those with no or very little experience of the guitar. This class is ideal for those who have tried to learn the guitar by themselves but somehow it didn't go anywhere.

An improvers class for those who have some experience or who have already done a class with Ian and would like to take it a little further.

Promising start for Hexham u11's

Seaton Delaval Dynamos 2, Hexham Juniors 2

Hexham's season got off to a positive start with a dominant first half performance on. They played some excellent football at times and created lots of scoring opportunities. However Hexham found the home keeper in great form and despite a flurry of good chances only had a Patrick Dryden strike to show for their efforts.

This was matched by a deflected equaliser by the home team. Again in the second half Hexham started positively and again took a deserved lead with a Jeff Carr shot on the turn. Despite lots of changes the Hexham team kept their shape well, but could not deny Seaton Delavel their hard fought equaliser.

Hexham under-11s

The Hexham midfield pairing of Louis Dimingue and Patrick Dryden performed heroically - George Cook came off the bench to impress down the left and the pairing of Robbie Sewell and Alex Cousins at the back looked very solid. Indeed the whole squad can take huge credit for their own commitment and effort.

"Crazy gang" goal sinks Hexham

Wideopen 1 Hexham 0

Two weeks, two cup competitions and two very contrasting performances for Hexham. After last week's win over Premiership Killingworth they fell to a sucker punch from Wideopen who are struggling at the lower reaches of division two. Kicking with the advantage of the slope and the sun at their backs in the first period they never took any advantage and the normal short passing game was missing.

Wideopen 1 Hexham 0

To be fair to both sides were not playing well and the swirling wind at the ad aptly named Wideopen did no favours to anybody. The first half was an instantly forgettable affair with only two incidents of note. The first came for the home side when a break down the right wing produced an inviting cross for Nicholas Jefferson to meet with his head, he headed it downwards and it looked like it was going to bounce over Hexham keeper Carl Robinson but he produced a great effort to stretch and palm the ball to safety.

Cadet Jamie Whiteley laying the wreath

On Sunday 19th September cadets from 224 (Hexham) Squadron commemorated the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain at the Cenotaph in Hexham's Sele Park.
The parade lasted half an hour and was an opportunity for the cadets to remember those who sacrificed their lives to win the Battle of Britain, a turning point that prevented the invasion of Britain by Germany in World War Two.

Prayers were said for those who died and for those currently fighting before Adult Sergeant Jonathan Dunn played The Last Post on trumpet before a short silence. Three wreaths were laid by the Mayor of Hexham, a representative of the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) and by Cadet Jamie Whiteley from 224 (Hexham) Squadron.

As part of the Battle of Britain weekend a team of cadets from the squadron collected money for the Battle of Britain Wings Appeal. The Wings Appeal is organised by the Royal Air Force Association in order to raise funds to provide support to both veterans and current serving personnel. Money raised this year is going to help provide serving overseas personnel the opportunity to call home for longer each month; boosting their morale and reassuring those at home.

Cadet Sergeant Anna Skentelbery who attended the parade said "It's a really important event, especially in Hexham where the turnout by the public is often small. We need to remember 'The Few' and the sacrifice they made for us; all the cadets are aware of the significance of the Battle of Britain and are always proud to participate in the parade."

Interested in aviation? The Air Training Corps welcomes young people aged between 13 and 17 who have a taste for adventure. 224 Squadron meets every Wednesday and Friday evening at the TA Centre, Hencotes, Hexham. Realise your potential; find out more at www.224hexhamaircadets.co.uk.

As always it's a hectic kick off for all our teams as the mad rush starts to catch the remaining daylight hours before the onset of winter. Put this against school pitches unavailability and late summer holidays it a difficult time for all our teams.

They do well to get as many games in and it has been an excellent start for many of them. The mini soccer is as strong as ever with two teams at every level and the under 8's started their season with an excellent encounter when the Greens played the Whites, once the coaches had worked out how to fit the goals together. The new management team at the under 10 Greens have had an good start with two wins out of two, leading goal scorers James Bowes and Will Roberts bagging three each.
