Hexham to hold Shrovetide Festival
Hexham is to hold its first Shrovetide Festival.
Hexham is to hold a special pancake themed Farmers' Market, with traditional pancake race, Mardi Gras carnival competition and live music from Mardi Gras band Tenth Avenue three days early on Saturday, February 13.
The market will be selling pancakes and eggs and butter for people to make their own on Shrove Tuesday.
The event in Hexham Market Place is being organised by Hexham Community Partnership and supported with funding from the Rural Development Programme for England - jointly funded by Defra and the European Union, and managed by One North East in the region.
Tamsin Beevor is co-ordinating the event for the partnership. She said: "Hexham's monthly farmer's market is known locally for its friendly atmosphere and the high quality of the products on sale. After the success of our Christmas market, we wanted to do something else extra special, and we're very excited about our first ever Shrovetide Festival.
"There will be lots of activities happening throughout the day and I would encourage not only our regular visitors to come down and take part, but also people who haven't enjoyed the market before and those who fancy a leisurely day out."
