Hexham Girls back to winning ways

Hexham 5, Walbottle 3

After a week kicking their heels Hexham were keen to get back into action against this strong Walbottle side and Hexham quickly found themselves in a game when Walbottle played a well worked move from a throw-in to go 1-0 up.

Hexham soon got back level with good interlinking play between Kelly Loughhead and Rhannan Castle which was then finished off by Layla Zahawi. Layla then got her second of the game when Kelly slotted a ball through which Layla promptly thumped into the roof of the net.

Hexham were now starting to dominate with wave after wave of attack following clever play from midfielders Roisin Edwards, Georgina Callf, Rachel Edwards and Marie McLoughlin. It was therefore no surprise when Hexham went further ahead.

Girl of the game Bex Knight floated a free kick onto the penalty spot and a brave header from Layla Zahawi then fell to Rhiannan Castle to poke home. Rhiannan then got on the score sheet again soon after to make the score 4-2 to Hexham at half time.

The Hexham defence was having a disciplined game with Bex Castle, Sophie Scott and Ellie Harris managing to snuff out most attacks. Bex in particular was launching herself at balls floated into Hexham's danger area, time after time heading away to safety.

Stephanie Chapman was playing well in the holding midfield role and keeper Hope Lowdon was her ever reliable self. Walbottle did however work hard to get back into the game and it paid off when Walbottle sneaked a second and then an own goal brought Walbottle to within touching distance of the Hexham total.

Hexham did however continue to plug away and towards the end of the game Rhiannan Castle managed to get her hat trick to make the final score 5-3 in Hexham's favour. All in all, a good win for Hexham.
