Famous tale coming to Newbrough Town Hall
Drama enthusiasts in Northumberland villages are looking forward to a stage show which has been secured thanks to a subsidy scheme aimed at taking quality theatre "out into the sticks".
The Northumberland Theatre Company will perform its touring production of Whisky Galore at Newbrough Town Hall later this month - bringing a real treat to a community which doesn't often get the chance to see top-notch theatre on its doorstep.

The visit has been arranged through the Highlights initiative - a subsidised rural touring scheme which enables smaller venues to stage high-quality shows.
The Highlights productions scheme brings professional theatre, music and dance shows to village halls, schools and community centres which would not otherwise be able to afford to book them.
The NTC's touring production of Whisky Galore, which is a new adaptation by Stewart Howson of Compton Mackenzie's famous comic novel of life on a Hebridean island, will be performed at Newbrough Town Hall at 7.30pm on Sunday, October 11.
The previous night it is showing at Whalton Village Hall, near Morpeth.
Whalton villager Sue Richardson said: "We have done a number of these things through Highlights in the past and they have all been excellent. Early reports on this production from a nearby venue rated the show as 'superb and marvellous'. The Highlights subsidy scheme is all about getting professional theatre out into the sticks."
NTC tours manager, Hilary Burns, said: "The Highlights scheme is great and it would be wonderful if it applied to the whole of Northumberland."
Whisky Galore is being performed by the NTC at 56 different venues across the UK, ranging from village halls to opera houses, theatres and arts centres.
