Hexham thief given suspended jail sentence
A Hexham thief was given a three-month suspended jail sentence after he admitted stealing a piece of plant equipment worth ã1,000.
James Isaac Dodds pleaded guilty to the theft from a Northumberland County Council depot on Burn Lane, Hexham on Sunday July 19.
Dodds, 24, of Chirdon Crescent, got into the compound by climbing over a wall and then took a mechanical breaker, stashing it near the entrance.
However, he was disturbed by police who had been alerted by a member of the public.
This week he was given a three-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, by Tynedale magistrates.
Northumberland Chief Inspector Simon Packham said: " This is an excellent example of a good police work in response to a call from an alert member of the public. In rural areas, we are dependent on the support of the public to be our eyes and ears and this is a fine example of that.
"It is also another example of how the Police in West Tynedale are targeting those who commit crime in the area in an effort to make the area even safer."
