Things are looking rosy for a Northumberland drinks company.

Hexham-based botanical beverage company Fentimans is this month celebrating the addition of a new drink to its growing range.

The new flavour, rose lemonade , was created using pure rose oil from the famous Rose Valley in Kazanlak, Bulgaria, which provides rose flavour and a blush pink colour to the liquid.

Eldon Robson, pictured, Fentimans' managing director and mast er brewer, said: "We always aim to create drinks that are three-dimensional, meaning that the aroma , the mouth feel and the aftertaste all work together to provide a complex but refreshing and unique drink.

"The response from focus groups to our rose lemonade was incredible, ranging from 'the best lemonade I have ever tasted', 'divine' to 'perfect for picnics' and it is already a favourite with Fentimans staff, who have been regularly sampling as we developed the product."

Two favourites of the original Fentimans range, the ginger beer and dandelion & burdock, were also recently made available in a 750ml serving, following consumer demand for a 'take home' bottle size.

It is expected that the rose lemonade will be available by the end of the month.

Fentimans was founded in the North East in 1905 by businessman, Thomas Fentiman, when he was given a recipe for ginger beer in exchange for an unpaid loan.

He went on to build a very successful business delivering ginger beer door-to-door from the back of wagons.

Fentimans produces its brews, which include ginger beer, brewed shandy, Victorian lemonade, Mandarin & Seville orange jigger, dandelion & burdock and curiosity cola, using the same methods as over 100 years ago by combining the finest herbs, natural flavourings, sugar and brewer's yeast.
