Peter Atkinson repays gardening expenses
The North East's only Conservative MP has returned more than ã100 in "gardening" expense claims.
Hexham's Peter Atkinson last month told The Journal his claims were reasonable for his second home in London.
But he declared being ready to repay money if ordered to do so by an internal party panel examining Tory MPs' expense claims.
The Conservative party yesterday revealed Mr Atkinson has handed back a total of ã121.85 in "gardening" claims.
The amount is equal to claims made for a ã99.99 garden shed and ã21.86 for paint, not tools as the MP thought at the time.
"I submitted all my accounts to the Conservative party scrutiny panel and actually repaid it a few days ago.
"But obviously, they advised anything to do with gardens was inappropriate, so I thought it right to repay it."
