Milk deal to aid farmers
Northumberland dairy farmers left devastated when their commercial group collapsed have won a new deal.
The Dairy Farmers of Britain site at Blaydon, Gateshead, went bust last month, leaving members fearing for their financial future.
But a new deal has now been struck with Milk Link, providing a contract for anyone still searching for a new distributor.
Farmers were getting 10p per litre from administrators running DFB, but will now get 18p.
Harold Forster, a dairy farmer in East Wharmley, near Hexham, used to provide milk to the Blaydon base of Dairy Farmers of Britain.
He said: "It's welcome news to those dairy farmers who don't have a contract.
"At least with 18p as opposed to 10p, that will help to pay a bill or two in the meantime. It still doesn't come close to what they need."
