Hexham photography group holds special exhibition
A photographic group in Northumberland is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special exhibition in its home town.
The Hexham Photographic Group - formed in 1989 - is holding a water- themed exhibition that fills all three galleries at the town's Queen's Hall.

It features work by 27 of the group's members, with nearly 100 exhibits ranging from photographs of the country's deepest lake at Wastwater in Cumbria to still-life portraits of water bottles.
The group's members include photographers who come to Hexham from for its monthly meetings from as far afield as Ripon in North Yorkshire to St Bees in Cumbria, as well as many local people from Tynedale.
Over the years, the group has brought a number of leading photographers to the area to run workshops and give talks, with more than 200 people attending a recent talk by Thomas Joshua Cooper, who also held a weekend workshop for members.
Keen photographer Colin Dixon hosted the group's first meeting in 1989.
He said: "Back in the 1980s, there weren't many opportunities for photographers to develop their work or exhibit in the North East.
"Everyone worked with black and white film then and, although more members work with digital photography today, the traditional ways are still taught and are well represented in the group.
"The aim of the group is to support members' work and to promote a greater understanding of photography through the events that are open to the public.
"Every few years, we choose a particular theme so that we can stage a large exhibition, and a lot of thought and work goes into these events. Twenty years is a special anniversary and we are sure everyone will find something to interest them in our Water exhibition."
The anniversary exhibition opened last weekend and will run until April 25. The group is also planning to hold a poetry and music evening on April 17, and a poetry workshop on April 24 in conjunction with the exhibition.
