Hexham nursery raises money for hospital

A Hexham day nursery held a farmers' market and open day at the weekend to raise money for the town's hospital.

The event, which took place at Kids 1st in Hexham on Saturday, sold fresh and organic produce, as well as offering children's activities.

Proceeds from the event will go to the maternity ward at Hexham General Hospital, which is run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Nursery manager Kathryn Brown said: "The Kids 1st Farmers' Market was not only a fun event to raise money for a good cause, but was also a great way for us to teach our children about the community that they live in and the importance of eating fresh, quality produce to help towards a healthy lifestyle."

The nursery chose the maternity ward to support because it has a strong connection with children and their parents.
