Tynedale victory keeps up challenge for promotion
Tynedale maintained their promotion challenge in National League Two but were made to work hard for their 28-24 victory by second-placed Birmingham and Solihull.
The home side, who are second in the table, took the lead with their first foray into the Tynedale half with a try from Cameron Mitchell.
But the visitors from Northumberland hit back immediately with a try in the corner from James Hoyte and took the lead courtesy of a 40-metre drop goal from Gavin Beasley.
The two teams traded penalties before the half-time break but Birmingham took control at the start of the second with a converted try from scrum-half Sam Brown. Mark Woodray then added to their advantage with two penalties and Tynedale looked to be heading to a defeat.
Their fightback began with another Beasley drop goal before some powerful work from the forwards enabled Bisser to dive over, a lead the team defended superbly despite going down to 14 men for the last 10 minutes. Tynedale move up to fifth after this excellent win against their promotion rivals.
