Tributes paid to Hexham librarian
Tributes have been paid to an esteemed university librarian who lived in Hexham.
Dr Tom Graham died on November 30 at the age of 63. For 11 years Dr Graham played an important role in education on Tyneside as Librarian and Keeper of the Pybus Collection at Newcastle University. He lived in Hexham with his wife Moira.
Brought up in Glasgow, Tom graduated from Glasgow University with an honours degree in history before going on to complete his librarianship qualifications at the University of Strathclyde.
During his distinguished career at various universities in both Scotland and England, his roles extended to a national and international level.
In 1992 he was awarded his PhD in Medieval Scottish History from Glasgow University. Away from work he played the violin in the Tynedale Orchestra and sang in the Hexham Abbey Festival Chorus with his wife.
His son Alasdair said: "We are all so proud of everything he has done.
"My dad came to Newcastle to take on a new challenge and I know he felt very welcome here.
"He loved walking in the Northumberland countryside.
"He was very well-respected and liked by all who knew him and will be greatly missed."
Dr Graham is survived by his wife Moira, 62, and sons Alasdair, 30, and Euan, 24.
His funeral service, which was attended by family, friends and many colleagues, took place on December 11.
