Hexham Football Club was well represented at the recent Tynedale Sports Council Awards held at the Function Suite, Tynedale Auction Mart. The Club came away with Certificates of Merit all presented by Tynedale's own Olympic Bronze medal winner Matt Wells.

Hexham FC under 15s

In the Junior team of the Year award the under 15 team, pictured above, were nominated. This team has had an amazing run of success over the past three seasons, before the season just past they had won the Coast Colts League title for the two previous campaigns.

Then the unfortunate demise of the CC League meant they had to join the NABC completion, this enforced a complete change with many new sides to take on as well as some old friends.

This they did with dramatic effect. In a eighteen game season they swept all before them winning all eighteen matches scoring 138 goals conceding only 9 amassing 54 points.

Aidan HarbottleOn an individual front Aidan Harbottle, pictured right, from last year's under 13 Whites was nominated also. Aidan has played for the Club since he was in the under 9 squad. In the early days this team struggled to keep pace with other teams of their age group.

As the seasons have gone by the team has got better and better and some of this improvement has been down to Aidan and his goal scoring exploits.

The season before last the team won the Coast Colts League and in the season just gone 2007/08 Aidan hit the net 70 times, this time in the NABC. This season up to October another 12 have gone past bemused goalkeepers.

His all time goal haul now stands at 240. In season 2006 / 07 Aidan received the player of the season award from the Coast Colts League.

Sean HeadsAlso to receive a certificate was Senior team goal keeper Sean Heads, pictured right. He may claim that is exploits between the sticks had a bearing on this award but surely his performances on the golf course earned him the nomination for Sportsman of the Year.

Sean never missed a match for Northumberland County Golf team last season and was captain of the English Universities team.
