Work to improve Tyne water quality at Hexham
WORK to improve river water quality in the Hexham area is to begin next week.
Northumbrian Water is to invest ã850,000 to upgrade the sewerage network.

The work, which will begin on Wednesday and last for up to six months, will improve water quality in the River Tyne and Cockshaw Burn.
Seven combined sewer overflows and small sections of sewer pipe are to be upgraded. Combined sewer overflows are designed and consented by the Environment Agency to discharge wastewater into watercourses in times of very heavy rainfall to protect properties and surrounding land from flooding.
The combined sewer overflows will be screened to improve river water quality and also ensure ever-increasing European water quality standards are met. Work to upgrade the overflow in Eilansgate, Hexham, will begin on Wednesday.
It will be necessary to close a section of the west-bound lane on Eilansgate between Eilansgate Terrace and Kingsgate Terrace for up to seven weeks.
Both lanes of this section of Eilansgate will be closed from Monday, October 27 for up to two weeks, between 9am and 3pm. Locations of other combined sewer overflows to be upgraded include Tanners Row, Tyne Green, Outlet Lane and Priestlands Close.
Residents directly affected by the work will receive notification in writing.
Customers with special needs or any concerns should ring Northumbrian Water on 0845 717-1100. It is very unlikely that anyone from the water company will need to gain access into customers' homes while the work is being carried out.
