Hexham businesswoman lends helping hand
A North East businesswoman is helping a disabled boy achieve his lifelong dream, after reading of his plight in The Journal.
Last month we reported on the ambition of 13-year-old muscular dystrophy sufferer Harry Thompson, from Cornhill in Northumberland.

The teenager, whose broken leg in January left him unable to walk and reliant on a powered wheelchair, wants to travel to America to swim with dolphins. Harry's personal assistant Rebecca Clark and mum Michelle, 40, were at the time beginning a fundraising drive to allow him to realise his dream.
The article was read by Ann Maddison, owner of Simonburn tearooms, bed and breakfast, craft shop and shop, near Hexham for the past three-and-a-half years.
Ann, 52, was so touched by Harry's predicament that she decided to make him her latest fundraising cause. With husband Trevor, a 54-year-old driving instructor, and their two part time staff, she invited B&B guests and tearoom customers to take part in a prize draw.
For £1 each, their name is entered into a hat for the chance to win one night free of charge in the business' new double executive room. Ann pinned a copy of our article on the tearoom wall, which has encouraged people to enter the draw.
She is to continue with the draw until Harry has enough money for his dream venture, but hopes to raise £500.
Ann said last night: "I do fundraising from my tearoom for different groups of people, I am always looking for something that captures my imagination, when I read Harry's story I just thought it was so sad.
"People have really wanted to do their little bit to help Harry."
Michelle said: "I think it is really nice what she is doing. You do not expect anybody to start doing anything, you hope they will, but I was just touched by it.
"Especially someone so far away. I am sure there are charities on her doorstep, she has obviously been touched by the story."
Michelle has organised a fundraising race night at a local pub this weekend and is to hold a disco once she has enough items for an auction. Rebecca has already held a sponsored 25-mile horseride.
Harry, meanwhile, is midway through his first term at Berwick High School.
