Hexham appeal for sport awards
A sports organisation is reminding the community that there is still time to nominate people for the region's annual sports awards.
Hexham-based Active Tynedale, a body that aims to promote sport and physical activity at a local level, is urging people in the area to put forward suggestions for the North East Sports Awards 2008 before the October 31 deadline.
The annual awards recognise contributions across all elements of sport in the North East, from coaches and volunteers, to elite performers and teams.
Olympian Steve Cram will be among those deciding the winners. He said: "2008 continues to be an exciting year for sport - not only with the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but the focus of world sport has turned to Great Britain following the handover from Beijing.
"As chair of the judging panel, I never cease to be amazed by the wealth of talent in the North East and the unbounded passion for sport.
"I am sure you know of someone without whom your sport would not be the same, someone who goes that extra mile, someone who embodies North East sporting passion.
"This is your opportunity to ensure they get the recognition they deserve, so please get your nominations to us by Friday October 31."
The North East Sports Awards 2008 ceremony will take place on Sunday December 7 at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre.
