Quarry open day near Hexham

Anyone who fancies seeing how a quarry works can get a taste of it at an open day near Hexham.

Tarmac, the largest quarrying company in the UK, is throwing open the doors of its Barrasford Quarry to the public.

The open day will not just be about the quarry, however, and will also include birds of prey, a Saxon encampment, face painting and competitions.

It takes place on September 20 from 9am to 2pm, at the quarry which lies north of Hexham on the A68.

Tarmac's Barrasford Quarry manager Ed Dixon said: "We are really excited about the open day. There's so much going on for both children and adults to enjoy.

"You can even have a go at making your own pottery and take your work of art home."

Refreshments will be provided during the day. But with the unpredictable weather, anyone going should take suitable shoes and clothing.

We'd like to hear from you.
